Local stock car racing favorite, Patrick Laperle of St Denis, Qc will start from the pole position Sunday at Sanair Super Speedway for the $10,000 to win ACTion Super Series Mega Classique. Saturday’s qualifying for the stars and cars of two regional stock car racing series – the U.S. based American-Canadian Tour (ACT) and Quebec’s Serie Castrol brought 64 drivers to the 7/8ths mile tri-oval in St. Pie, Qc including several “outlaw” competitors couldn’t resist the lure of the big money.
To earn the coveted spot, Laperle improved his qualifier starting position the most number of places (12) of any of the drivers attempting to make the field. Second generation racer, Scott Dragon from Colchester, VT will start alongside Laperle in just his second ACT start of the season.
Five-time and defending American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Champion, Jean-Paul Cyr from Milton, VT will start from the third post position while Turner, Maine’s Ben Rowe will occupy the spot next to Cyr.
Thirty-four cars made the grid through two rounds of qualifying. One final qualifying opportunity remains for Sunday’s event, the first of three ACTion Super Series sanctioned by the U. S. based ACT in 2006. Drivers who’ve not earned a starting spot can run the Last Chance “B” Feature at 12 noon. Nine positions remain.
Drivers who’ve secured a chance at the $10,000 winner’s purse include 16 ACT representatives, 14 from the Serie Castrol and four "Outlaw" drivers who aren’t affiliated with either organization.
The Mega Classique will employ a unique segment race format consisting of a trio of 50-lap events. Drivers will earn points based on finishing position in each of the three races. The competitor with the lowest cumulative score will take home the ten grand (US).
General admission tickets are available at the track. Also on Sunday’s card will be events for ACT's Sportsman Series, DIRT Modified cars, Quebec Sportsmen, Pro-Cam Trucks and more. Post time is 12 noon.
