LOCAL HERO SHAWN MARTIN CLAIMS SECOND ACT WIN

 Turner, Maine’s Shawn Martin claimed his second American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model victory Saturday night at Oxford Plains Speedway, his home race track. Martin took the lead on the 96th lap and held off fellow OPS driver, Dennis Spencer from Norway, ME and Vermont’s Joey Laquerre for the Maine-ly ACTion Sports 100 victory.
Martin took the lead from pole sitter Steve Reny on the 15th circuit and stayed out front for several laps but Reny recovered to regain the lead. Martin fell back to as far as ninth before working his way back toward the front.
“I fell way back then started picking ‘em off late one at a time. I was thinking this was a great race to watch from the stands as it was great from where I was!” the winner enthused in Victory Lane.
Runner-up Spencer spent two laps at the front as the race neared the end but the handling went away, “My car was really loose on the bottom so I couldn’t get what I needed to and couldn’t do much with Shawn on the last restart,” he explained.
Brent Dragon from Milton, VT and Wariwick, Rhode Island’s Ryan Vanasse completed the top five.
Eight caution periods, all for minor incidents showed the sixth ACT event of the year which was contested in just over one hour. Forty-fours attempted to qualify for the 33 car starting field. There were nine lead changes among four drivers.
