Bond Auto Labor Day Weekend Schedule Released
The weekend schedule of events for the ACT Tour's 10th race of the season, the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200 has been released and it features two jam packed days of stock car racing competition. Barre, Vermont’s internationally acclaimed Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl, a quarter-mile oval, will host the 28th annual event on Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3.

In addition to being a point counting event for the Tour’s season long championship, the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200 is the second of three designated races in the 2006 ACTion Super Series. Each of the trio of special events has a purse in excess of $50,000, with $10,000 of the posted funds going to the winner.

Turner, Maine’s Ben Rowe won the first ACTion Super Series race of the year, the Mega Classique on July 9 at Quebec’s Sanair Super Speedway. Jean-Paul Cyr from Milton, VT, the current ACT Tour point leader is the defending winner of the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200.

Thunder Road, known as the “Nation’s Site of Excitement” is a true handling track which puts the onus on driver and pit crew. With only a couple of ACT Tour events at the high banked speedplant, the Series’ “regular” drivers will be looking forward to getting all of the seat time they can in preparation for the big money event.

The weekend’s schedule offers considerable practice time for the Late Model competitors on Saturday, interspersed around practice and qualifying races for Thunder Road’s Sportsmen, Street Stock and Warrior classes. Action gets under way at 12 noon.

On Sunday, September 3, the gloves will come off for the Late Model drivers. Practice sessions are slated to begin at 11:00 am with the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic qualifying heats set to begin at 1:00 pm sharp. The weekly competitors will run their feature events in between the Late Model qualifying action.
Several Late Model teams are allegedly going to take advantage of this week’s final Thursday night of racing (August 24) to get a head start on their set-ups. Among those rumored to be hading to Thunder Road this week are Brent Dragon (the 2004 Labor Day Classic winner), Cyr, Ben Rowe, Pete Potvin from White Mtn Motorsports Park, and Massachusetts driver, J.R. Baril (who made an appearance at Thunder Road on Aug 17 in the Chad Sullivan car). Also, a pair of Granite State racers, 17 year-old Joey Polewarczyk from Hudson and Lancaster’s “Rocket” Roger Brown have indicated they’ll head to the “Nation’s Site of Excitement” this week.

Nearly 50 drivers have already entered the Thunder Road event including many of the track’s weekly Late Model racers. Their knowledge of the speedplant could prove to be quite beneficial!
