Brian Hoar is looking for his second win in the Furniture World of VT Spring Green 100

A pair of Furniture World of VT Spring Green Champions are looking to build on past success at Airborne Speedway.  American-Canadian Tour (ACT) stock car racing returns to Plattsburgh, NY on Saturday, May 12, and Brian Hoar and Brent Dragon head the list of ACT Late Model Tour competitors looking forward to the event.

Hoar started his racing career at Airborne in 1991, and became a dominant force at the track and in the northeast over the next decade.  He won the Furniture World of VT Spring Green 100 on his way to the ACT Late Model Tour and Airborne Speedway championships in 1999, and will compete at the tricky 4/10-mile, D-shaped oval for the first time in nearly three years.

“We went to Airborne for a test session last month, and it was a little nostalgic,” said the Williston, VT driver, a five-time ACT Champion.  “When we drove off of the Lake Champlain ferry, my guys and I looked at each other and said, ‘Man, this is just like the old days.’  Airborne is as much my home track as Thunder Road in Vermont, and I can’t wait to get back there and race this weekend.”

“It’s important to win the Spring Green,” said Dragon.  The Milton, VT driver, who is sponsored by Furniture World of VT, won the event in 2004.  “It’s one of the bigger races in our area, and it’s a good place for my team and I to get our season back on track.”  Dragon is a three-time Airborne Speedway Champion, and hopes to build momentum after a sixth-place result at Thunder Road last weekend.  He failed to qualify for the ACT Late Model Tour’s first event at Oxford, ME two weeks ago.

“Our practice results (at Airborne) were encouraging,” he said.  “I think on race day, the guys we’ll have to beat will be Brian Hoar, (six-time ACT Champion) Jean-Paul Cyr, (Serie ACT Castrol Champion) Donald Theetge from Quebec, and Roger Brown.”

Brown is an up-and-coming ACT star from Lancaster, NH, and was very strong at Airborne Speedway’s open test session in April.  “Rocket” Roger’s best finish at Airborne is fourth-place in the 2004 Furniture World of VT Spring Green.

“Our team is excited for Airborne, we can’t wait,” he said.  “We were looking forward to running there last year, but the race was rained out.  I think if we can get a good handle on our brakes and find enough forward bite in the corners, we’ll have a good run.  Airborne is a lot different from the other tracks we race at, it’s a lot of fun.”

Brown will try to join Hoar and Dragon on the prestigious list of Furniture World of VT Spring Green 100 winners on Saturday, May 12.  Green flag qualifying action is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.  For more information, call (802) 244-6963, or visit
