Série ACT Castrol Champion Patrick Laperle

The Best Western Hotel Universal in Drummondville, Qc. has been selected as the site where Série ACT Castrol champion Patrick Laperle and the top 15 competitors will receive their 2007 awards.  The annual Banquet of Champions will take place on Saturday, November 17, 2007.  Reservations are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis according to availability.  Tickets are $40 per person and must be purchased in advance from the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) offices in Waterbury, VT by Monday, October 29 deadline. Tickets are required to attend the Banquet and none will be sold at the door.

Laperle, a 31 year-old racer from St-Denis, Qc edged out Terrebonne’s Sylvain Lacombe, the 2005 title holder, by just 16 points.  The pair amassed very similar records over the course of 12 events at four Quebec venues and one in Ontario.  Laperle finished out of the top ten only once while posting wins at Autodrome St-Eustache (St-Eustache, Qc), and Circuit-Ste-Croix (Ste-Croix, Qc). En route to his first career championship, Laperle, who will take home $10,000, showed his versatility by carrying the checkers on a flat 4/10ths mile oval and a fast 5/8ths mile high banked speedplant.

Éric St-Gelais

Like Laperle, Lacombe, 45, finished below ninth place only once.  He also scored victories at Circuit Ste-Croix and Autodrome St-Eustache as well as at the 3/8ths mile high banked Autodrome Montmagny Speedway (Montmagny, Qc).

Three-time winner, Alexandre Gingras of Québec, Qc was third in the season-long tally while Jean-François Déry of Val Belair, Qc and St-Félicien, Quebec’s Karl Allard completed the top five.

Eric St-Gelais from St-Nicolas, Qc will receive the Rookie of the Year award after a season long battle with his fellow freshmen racers.  A mere seven points separated St-Gelais from runner-up Jonathan Desbiens, a 16 year-old from Levis, Qc.

Two special awards, for the “Most Improved Driver” and for the competitor deemed as having “Sportsmanship”, as voted on by the registered drivers, car owners and officials, will be announced at the Banquet as well.
