Team’s from all over the Northeast, Ontario and Quebec were on hand in preparation for the All-Star Late Model Challenge at NHMS on Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13.
Inaugural ACT Invitional Champion Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, MA was the fastest on the day turning a 31.589 lap. Graniteville’s John Donahue was also near the top of the time charts for the majority of the day with his fastest lap of 31.676 seconds.Other notables among the fastest included Quebec City’s Jean-François Déry, Albany Township, ME’s Ricky Rolfe, and Williston, VT’s Brian Hoar. Former NHMS track champion Brad Leighton of Center Harbor, NH was also quick in the afternoon session. Veteran Joey Laquerre of East Montpelier, VT and former K&N East Series driver Tom Carey, Jr. of New Salem, MA were also fast.
The Test and Tune session included two 12-lap simulation races with approximately 20 cars in each. Pete Yetman and Jeff White took the wins. MacDonald, Donahue, Hoar, Babb, and Leighton were all very impressive coming from the back to finish in the top five in their respective races. The second simulation race saw Donahue, Hoar and Babb running three wide for second place over several laps, which made for entertaining racing. The two events and the whole day for that matter only saw one incident, which caused Joey Laquerre to hit the wall coming out of turn two after contact with another car. The incident caused significant damage to Laquerre’s rear end and ended his day.
