Canadians Prepare for Montmagny Opener
After a long off-season, the stars of the Série ACT Castrol are preparing their cars for the 2012 season opener at Autodrome Montmagny in Montmagny, QC on Saturday, May 26. Patrick Laperle of St-Denis, QC will look to begin his title defense with a message at Montmagny, but he won’t be the only one.
2010 Série ACT Castrol Champion Karl Allard of St-Felicien, QC is eager to improve on his runner-up points finish in 2011, and Autodrome Montmagny is just the place for him to start. Allard is the only driver to have finished in the top five in all of the last six races at the track, dating back to May of 2009. However, Allard’s consistency will have to combat Laperle’s overpowering 3 wins in the last 5 races at Autodrome Montmagny.
Two-time Champion of Série ACT Castrol, Donald Theetge of Boischatel, QC, will be looking to dethrone Laperle atop the standings with a shot at history on the line. Laperle and Theetge are tied with two championships apiece, and will now go head-to-head in the hunt to become the first ever three-time Champion of Série ACT Castrol. Theetge has brought new weapons to the fight with a brand new car out of the RPM stable - the same builder as eight-time ACT US Tour Champion Brian Hoar.
Not to be counted out are up and comers David Michaud and Patrick Hamel who recorded breakout years in 2011. Michaud’s consistency, with an 8.8 average finish in 2011, earned him the fourth position in the final standings, which only leaves him hungry for a top three in 2012. Hamel finished fifth overall and picked up a confidence boosting first win at Riverside Speedway in St. Croix, QC. With the taste of victory still lingering, Hamel will look for more of the same at Autodrome Montmagny. Dany Trepanier, Patrick Cliche, and Claude Leclerc will also look to improve on top ten point finishes last season.
The action begins on Saturday, May 26 at Autodrome Montmagny in Montmagny, QC.
