American Canadian Tour (ACT) point leader Scott Payea will attempt to close out his record-breaking season by becoming the 2017 Tour champion Saturday, October 14 at the 55th Annual Thompson Speedway World Series.
Payea became the first ACT Late Model driver ever to win four consecutive tour events earlier this season with victories at Devil’s Bowl, Thunder Road, White Mountain and Seekonk Speedway.
He has recorded five wins and eight top-5’s at the wheel of the Harrison Redi-Mix No.37 for car owner Rick Paya.
Dillon Moltz of Waterford, Ct. is Payea’s only obstacle to the title. He trails Payea by 37 points. Moltz won the season opener at Lee USA Speedway and was a winner at White Mountain in August in the RB Performance Inc. Chevy No. 5.
The 2017 ACT championship would be Payea’s first. He finished one point shy of the title in 2008 after Patrick Laperle earned the crown by winning Thunder Road’s Milk Bowl on the last day of the season.
Several 2017 championships will be decided at the Thompson Sunoco World Series – three-day event that begins qualifying action Friday at 5 p.m. ACT qualifying heats are scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Saturday. The 75-lap ACT feature will follow later Saturday.
