Ticket reservation forms for the 2006 ACT/Thunder Road Banquet of Champions on Saturday, January 13 at the Sheraton Burlington (VT) Hotel and Conference Center have been sent to all licensed competitors. Reservations will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made through the mail. Payment, (tickets are $35 each) must accompany all reservation forms. Deadline for reservations is Tuesday, January 2, 2006.

Chad Wheeler of Waterbury Center, VT, who earned his first Thunder Road Late Model “King of the Road” title will be honored as will Montpelier’s Shawn Fleury who scored his second NAPA Tiger Sportsman crown. Eric Badore succeeded fellow Milton, VT resident Joe Small by earning his Allen Lumber Street Stock title while Maynard Bartlett Jr from Wolcott, VT raced to his first PowerShift Warrior championship.

Forty year-old Jean-Paul Cyr from Milton, VT will be crowned as the 2006 ACT Late Model Tour Champion, his fourth consecutive and sixth overall. Cyr is tied with the legendary Robbie Crouch for winning the most Tour titles. Veteran racer, Chuck Beede from Williamstown, VT will receive the top hardware from ACT’s Tiger Sportsman Series. Beede edged out fellow veteran, 63 year-old Joey Laquerre from East Montpelier by nine points in the weather shortened Series.

Several special awards, which are voted on by the ACT/Thunder Road membership, will also be handed out including Most Improved Driver and Sportsmanship awards for the Late Model and Tiger Sportsmen. The Eddie Carroll Memorial Award for Street Stocks, a Sportsmanship Award, will also be presented based on a vote by a competitor’s peers.

The top rookie drivers will receive hardware commemorating their outstanding performances in their first year of competition. Massachusetts’s Mark Anzalone Jr will receive the ACT Tour freshman crown while Marcel Gravel of Wolcott, VT will receive Thunder Road’s Late Model rookie title. Matt Potter from Plainfield, VT will be honored as the top first year driver in the NAPA Sportsman division at Thunder Road and Barre, Vermont’s Shawn Sicard will be feted as the top rookie of the seven eligible in the Allen Lumber Street Stock class. One of these, or possibly another of the first year competitors, will be honored with the Dr. G.R. Nielsen Rookie Award for outstanding performance in a driver’s freshman year behind the wheel.

The 38th annual Don MacTavish Award for outstanding contribution to regional racing will wrap up the night’s festivities.

Banquet activities will kick off on Saturday, January 13 at 6:00 pm with a “Social Hour” followed by dinner at 7:00 pm. Dancing will follow the award presentations. No tickets will be available at the door.
