Three Late Model competitors as well as a NAPA Sportsman racer and an Allen Lumber Street Stock driver at Barre, Vermont's Thunder Road Int'l Speedbowl will get bonus money in their banquet checks thanks to the Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Hottest Shoe Award program. Vermont Late Model drivers Phil Scott, Eric Williams and Brent Dragon will split $500, while NAPA Sportsmen racer, Shawn Fleury of Montpelier, VT takes home an extra $250 and Allen Lumber Street Stock competitor, Eric Badore from Georgia, VT will find an extra $100 in his check.
The "Hottest Shoe" Awards will be presented at the January season ending Banquet of Champions and are given to the drivers who post the most feature wins in their respective divisions at the high-banked, quarter-mile oval. Scott from Middlesex, Hyde Park's Williams, Hyde Park, and Dragon, of Milton each posted a pair of wins in 17 events. Fleury, who will also receive his second championship accolades at the function, was the lone Sportsman to visit the Winner's Circle three times the division's 17 races. Badore, also a "King of the Road" turned in a trio of victories en route to the 4-cylinder class crown.
The Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Hottest Shoe Award grew out of the clothier's weekly "Hot Shoe Award" which rewards drivers when they post their first feature win of the season at Thunder Road. The Late Models receive $150 for carrying the checkers, NAPA Sportsmen, $100, and the Allen Lumber Street Stocks, $50. During Thunder Road's recently completed season 14 Late Model drivers, 12 NAPA Sportsmen, and 14 Allen Lumber Street Stocks garnered a weekly Hot Shoe bonus. Each "Hot Shoe" also received a commemorative embroidered hat, as well as his cash bonus during the pre-race ceremonies at the next race event.
Additionally in 2005, a secondary tier was added to the weekly award which gave the competitors half the award value for a second victory. Scott, Williams and Dragon all received a second Late Model bonus. Fleury, as well as Chip Grenier (Northfield, VT), Tom Therrien (Hinesburg, VT) and Nick Sweet (Barre, VT) posted repeat NAPA Sportsmen wins. Joining Badore as a repeat winner in the Allen Lumber Street Stocks was Williamstown, VT driver, Tommy Smith.
"We were delighted to award over $4,500 in Hot Shoe bonuses during Thunder Road's 2006 season. This is surely an indicator, with as many individual winners and few repeaters, that Thunder Road has great competition and that almost anyone can win on any given night," commented Mark McCarthy, Vice President at Lenny's Shoe and Apparel. "Coupled with the season-end "Hottest Shoe" awards we'll present at the Banquet, the total we'll have contributed to the drivers is more than $5,300!"
"The Lenny's Hot Shoe program is a favorite with the competitors," remarked Darla Hartt, Thunder Road's Administrative Director. "Not only for the extra money they earn, but for the commemorative hats they receive which are proudly worn around the pits and beyond and are sought after by those who haven't received one yet."
Lenny's Shoe and Apparel has three locations in Vermont - St Albans, Williston and the flagship store in Barre.
