Green Lake, WI – Racing Promotion Monthly (RPM) has named the recipients of its “Regional Promoter of the Year” awards for 2004. Short track stock car racing promoters in eight regions were tabbed for the honors, with each promoter placed on the National ballot for the 29th annual “RPM Auto Racing Promoter of the Year” award. The award, voted on by over 1,000 members, is considered the short track industry’s highest honor among promoters, and will be presented at the RPM Promoters Workshops in Lake Mary, FL during Speedweeks in February.

Happy New Year, all! We at ACT hope yours was safe and fun, and that you rang it in with style! As a sort of last hurrah (save for the Banquet of Champions on January 15), let’s do a “2004 Season in Review”!
The 2004 ACT racing season started off in basically the same manner as 2003 ended – with reigning Late Model Tour Champion Jean-Paul Cyr (shown left) in the winner’s circle. Cyr captured the Merchants Bank Freedom Lynx 150 at Thunder Road, and went on to win again at White Mountain Motorsports Park in June. Brent Dragon took down the Ehler’s RV Spring Green 100 at Airborne Raceway, and later completed the Airborne sweep with the Leo’s Furniture Fall Foliage 150 in September. Canadian Patrick Laperle walked off with a win at Twin State Speedway, and was followed two days later by first-time winner Joe Becker at Thunder Road’s Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic.

ACT President Tom Curley announced last week that the ACT Late Model Tour will institute a brand-new Goodyear 8” tire for 2005. The new partnership will allow Goodyear to re-enter the Northeast Late Model scene in earnest after spending several years out of the general limelight. Greg Stucker, Goodyear’s Director of Race Tire Sales and Marketing, is very excited about the partnership with ACT. “By working with an organization as powerful as ACT, racers and promoters across the Northeast and across the country will take notice over the next year or two, and hopefully make the switch to Goodyear,” Stucker commented.
