No Points But Plenty on the Line at the 63rd Vermont Milk Bowl for the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour
/Barre, VT — As New England’s picturesque hills turn amber and leaves begin to fly, many look forward to picking apples, county fairs and carving pumpkins. For the faithful race fans of the northeast, the change of season brings their favorite event of the year. This weekend brings the 63rd running of the Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank to Thunder Road International Speedbowl with drivers from across New England and Quebec set to make the drive for an over $12,000 grand prize and the once-in-a-lifetime chance to plant a kiss on Vermont’s finest Ayrshire dairy cow!
The Milk Bowl has been a staple of Vermont racing since 1962 and the Green Mountain State’s greatest racing spectacle ever since! Drivers will earn points based on finishing position in each of the three 50-lap segments on Sunday, October 5 with the lowest point total earning the $12,000+ win, their name in the history books and the chance to celebrate with Harvest Star Copper, a beautiful Ayrshire dairy queen, in victory lane. Sounds like a walk in the park, but officials invert the starting line-up of segments two and three based on the previous segment’s finishing order with the winner starting dead-last and having to climb back to the top in order to take the overall!
And don’t forget Booth Bros./Hood Milk Qualifying Day on Saturday, October 4. It’s the only time of year that time trials determine the starting order of a Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour event with each Late Model driver trying to post the fastest time in just two laps to claim the $1,000 Booth Bros. Pole Award! The ‘Triple 50’ heat races will follow time trials on Saturday to lock in the first twenty-two spots while Sunday’s B-Feature will be the last chance to join the field prior to opening ceremonies.
The Northfield Savings Bank Vermont Milk Bowl is a non-point affair for the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour but it is a 100%er event for teams to maintain their 100% status for the end-of-season point fund. Without points on the line, expect plenty of movers in Sunday’s starting field including Dartmouth, Massachusetts-driver Derek Gluchacki. The current Kulwicki Driver Development Program (KDDP) point leader, Gluchacki was rolling with just sixteen points heading into the final segment one year ago when a blown oil pan cost him a chance at the overall. Gluchacki showed his strong short-run capabilities last year, but he won’t be the only one.
2024 Thunder Road King of the Road track champion Kaiden Fisher is no stranger to 50-lap competition on the Barre highbanks while fellow Vermonter Jesse Switser has made several trips to Thunder Road this summer in preparation for the Milk Bowl. Fellow top championship chasers Raphael Lessard, D.J. Shaw, Gabe Brown and Erick Sands have had their heads buried in the notebook, hard at work since the Fall Foliage in preparation for the Toughest Short Track Stock Car Race in North America.
Quebec’s Jonathan Bouvrette and Remi Perreault are also joined by three-time Vermont Milk Bowl champion Patrick Laperle of St-Denis, Quebec while New Hampshire’s Cole Littlewood looks to improve his Thunder Road program by fire at the Milk Bowl! A strong contingent of Thunder Road teams, led by 2025 King of the Road Jason Corliss and former Milk Bowl champions Marcel Gravel, Stephen Donahue, Christopher Pelkey and Bobby Therrien also fill the early entry list!
The Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour returns to racing action at Thunder Road International Speedbowl on Saturday and Sunday, October 4th and 5th for the 63rd Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank. While ‘The Toughest Short Track Stock Car Race in North America’ is a non-point event for the traveling Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour, expect many of New England’s best drivers to compete for a piece of the $100,000 purse and a chance to kiss the cow on Vermont Milk Bowl Sunday!
