$5,000 Quebec Challenge to be Decided at Oxford Plains Speedway in One Week
/Barre, VT — With last week’s announced schedule changes adding an event at Oxford Plains Speedway as a replacement for the rain-cancelled event at Ste-Croix, so too comes a change up for the Quebec Challenge Series. The international Challenge that carries a $5,000 point fund for the top five finalists will now conclude on Friday, August 22nd to help kick-off the 52nd All That’s Metal Oxford 250 weekend.
Announced at Autodrome Chaudiere back in June, the Quebec Challenge Series was designed with Quebec’s racers in mind. While the Serie ACT Quebec schedule keeps them busy up north, the Quebec Challenge Series would give them a little something extra to fight for, and an extra incentive to battle any American invaders! So far, it seems to have all come together.
After winning in a photo finish over Raphael Lessard at Autodrome Montmagny in July, current Serie ACT Quebec point leader Jeff Cote is leading the charge for the $2,000 winner’s share of the Challenge Series point fund. Cote has secured a ride aboard Gabe Brown’s back-up for Friday’s Yvon Bedard 109, his first career foray at Oxford. Lessard currently sits third in the Challenge ranking with the Larue Motorsports team looking to make their first trip to Oxford Plains Speedway in over fifteen years.
Fellow Quebec winner Alexendre ‘Fireball’ Tardif is ranked second below Cote on the Challenge Series standings, just four points back on the leaderboard. Fireball has been a force on the Oxford oval before, adding one second-place and two third-place trophies to his credit in Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour competition, he’s looking to take the Knockout Punch #31CT to the front and take the Quebec Challenge in the process while preparing the #21QC car for the Oxford 250 on Sunday.
Top American aces Gabe Brown, Jesse Switser and D.J. Shaw are also well within range of striking at a track all three have shared success at in the past. Shaw is still in the hunt for his first Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour win at the Maine speedplant after winning both Super Late Model events one week ago while Switser and Brown are both looking for their second win at Oxford with two chances just one week from today!
The Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour returns to Oxford Plains Speedway in a big way on Friday and Saturday, August 22 and 23 to join the first two days of the 52nd annual All That’s Metal Oxford 250 weekend. Friday’s Yvon Bedard 109 will crown the Quebec Challenge Series champion with a 5:00pm Post Time before the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour teams make adjustments for the Oxford 125 that headlines the annual ‘Night Before the 250’ Saturday program that starts at 4:00pm!
