‘Le Grand’ Patrick Laperle Back in Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour Victory Lane at Autodrome Chaudiere
/Vallee-Jonction, QC — The Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour returned to La Belle Province of Quebec on Saturday with 40 teams entering the pit area to smash the previous car count record set by the international Tour! Three rounds of qualifying whittled the forty-car group of hopefuls to just thirty starting spots.
St-Georges, Quebec driver Phillippe Poulin proved to be the lone Canadian heat race winner in the first with Cole Littlewood, Justin Prescott and Erick Sands collecting the checkers in the remaining three. The Quebecers came back with a vengence as Patrick Cliché and Dany Trepanier split the two consolation rounds and Dany Gariepy took the B-Feature victory to qualify into the Claude Leclerc 150.
By virtue of a +5 handicap earned in Plus/Minus qualifying, longtime campaigner Sebastien Couture took the pole starting spot with Andrew Larue lined up alongside. Couture led the early going but it was Trepanier that powered up along the outside to take the lead on lap 10 following the early caution on lap 7 for contact between Larue and Jeff Côté.
With Trepanier working in the outside lane, Patrick Laperle battled hard behind Couture on the bottom inside L.P. Lauzier to complete the top four runners. After moving into a single file line, Laperle would use the outside groove to carry the momentum around Trepanier and lead lap 22. Thunder Road campaigner Justin Prescott would call out the lap 57 caution in a single-car spin in turn four when catastrophe struck second-place runner Dany Trepanier with overheating issues sending him pitside for the remainder of the event.
Top-five point chaser Jesse Switser brought out the final caution on lap 99 with drivetrain issues sending him into the spin-cycle in turn two. The caution would spell disaster for point leader Gabe Brown as well with the cars stopped on track to assist the speedy clean-up for Switser. Brown’s electrical system expired in the pause leading the 47NH to be pushed into the pits for a new battery. Brown would return on lap 102, two laps down.
What came next was reminiscent of twenty-years ago for the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour with Laperle’s iconic orange #91QC versus young Kaiden Fisher in the same S.D. Ireland Concrete #18VT scheme made famous by his father Jamie. The two swapped paint before Patrick Laperle pulled away and never looked back to take the $10,000 Claude Leclerc 150 payday over Fisher and Lauzier.
Saturday’s win is Laperle’s first ACT-US win north of the boarder since 2008 and his 21st point counting victory in the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour. Anthony Lessard finished fourth in his Milton CAT Tour debut with Sebastien Couture having a career-best day with a fifth-place run. Jonathan Bouvrette, Patrick Cliché, Michael Lavoie, Maxime Gauvreau and Jeff Côté rounded out the top-ten.
The Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour turns north once again in three weeks for the second of three $10,000 to win events in a row with the CAN-AM 200 at Autodrome Montmagny on Saturday, July 18. The Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour will once again go head-to-head with the Serie ACT Quebec stars at the stellar 3/8-mile facility north of Quebec City.
