Gabe Brown Takes Down Win #4, Tightens Milton CAT Championship Chase at Oxford
/Sam Caron Wins the Battle while Jason Woodard Wins the War in the Tiger Tri-State Series Finale
Oxford, ME — Fifty-two Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour-sanctioned racers packed the pit area Saturday morning as part of the action-packed Spencer Group Paving PASS 400 Weekend. Originally set for an early-season April showdown, the Pine Tree State 125 presented by Wellman Paving was rain delayed by 175 days for the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour’s third visit to Oxford Plains Speedway this season with thirty cars making the trip. Saturday’s showcase was also a shining moment for the ACT Flying Tigers, rounding out this year’s three-race Tri-State Series with the Vacationland 75.
Brandon Barker, Trevor Sanborn and Kaiden Fisher took the fast lane to win their respective heat race qualifiers while Tanner Woodard took the one consolation victory in Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour qualifying. Luke Peters and Logan Powers split the two Flying Tiger heats.
The Vacationland 75 took on the Oxford oval first on Saturday afternoon with Tri-State Series championship chasers Sam Caron and Jason Woodard earning the front row starting positions. With the inside groove proving to be the fastest all day long, Thunder Road standouts Caron, Mike Martin, Woodard and Cooper French rode nose-to-tail leading the pack through the first half. Two quick spin cautions proved to be the lone pauses with Caron facing off against Martin on the restarts in dominant fashion. Sam Caron took down the 75-lap win but it wasn’t enough to cover Jason Woodard’s point tally with his own third place run. Fellow championship hopeful Mike Martin finished second while Powers and French rounded out the top five.
Jesse Switser and Derek Gluchacki took the high marks in Plus/Minus handicapping to lead the Pine Tree State 125 to green with the Late Model field just as quick to jump to the inside line, following Switser around the Maine oval. By lap 25, Switser and Gluchacki found their way to lap traffic with the hold-up allowing third and fourth place runners Erick Sands and Raphael Lessard to close within a car length. Lap traffic became the overarching theme for the rest of the event starting with Swister and Gluchacki’s nervous navigation of the slower cars, allowing Gluchacki to take the lead on lap 35.
Unfortunately for Gluchacki, using his Wild Card double point option in the Kulwicki Driver Development Program (KDDP) points, the lap traffic also allowed Gabe Brown to launch into the top three picture after starting tenth on the grid with the former winner’s handicap. Brown took over the lead on lap 61 just before Jonathan Bouvrette and Holdyn Sullivan spun in front of both him and Gluchacki in turn three. In an otherwise clean and green showdown, Gabe Brown kept the hammer down to take the Pine Tree State 125 presented by Wellman Paving with Brandon Barker making a play for the lead before time ran out to take second over Derek Gluchacki.
Raphael Lessard didn’t get quite enough luck to wrap up the championship chase early with a fourth-place finish and Erick Sands rounding out the top five. Switser held on for sixth ahead of D.J. Shaw, Trevor Sanborn, Alexendre ‘Fireball’ Tardif and Nick Sweet.
The Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour wraps up the 2025 season in just seven days at the Seekonk Speedway for the Haunted Hundred presented by Milton CAT on Saturday, October 25. One final 100-lap dash will put all Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour teams on notice at one of the most competitive tracks in the Northeast. Raphael Lessard now holds a 43-point advantage over Gabe Brown in the championship chase while D.J. Shaw and Jesse Switser are still mathematically able to take the title next Saturday if all goes their way!
