After 749, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Comes Home for 750 with Thompson 150
/Geoff Bodine Makes Special Appearance, Set to Pace the Field!
Barre, VT & Naples, ME — The Thompson Speedway oval is back in action this Wednesday, August 6 with a big-time showdown on the line for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Amidst their 40th anniversary season celebrations, this Wednesday’s 150 lapper also serves as the 750th event in the open-wheeled Tour’s history after first debuting on the Thompson highbanks back in 1985.
Twenty-eight teams already flood the roster released by NASCAR Monday morning for this Wednesday’s showdown at the 5/8-mile oval with point leader Austin Beers set to battle for his first Thompson triumph. Beers holds a slim four-point lead over four-time champion Justin Bonsignore with the Holtsville, New Yorker heading into a truck where he’s had a boatload of success over the years. Fellow Thompson hot-shoes looking to overtake Bonsignore and win the 750th event include Patrick Emerling, Ron Silk, Craig Lutz, Eric Goodale and Jon McKennedy.
McKennedy has set the Open Tour-type Modified shows on fire this year at Thompson but the change in pace from a 50 lap sprint to a 150-lap marathon will force his Stuarts Automotive team to change up the strategy. In a special addition to the Wednesday program, Geoff Bodine will be on hand with the Big Red Machine #1 that he cruised around the ovals of the Northeast in the late 1970s. There will be a display on the midway and Geoff will be available for autographs prior to his pacing of the Thompson 150 field!
The New England Supermodified Series (NESS) also returns to Thompson on Wednesday night as the lightning-fast, open-wheeled and winged rockets take on the highbanks at their fastest track of the year! Barnstable, Massachusetts-own Jeffrey Battle leads the NESS standings in search of his first championship while Matt Swanson is looking for another Supermodified win as he pulls double duty with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on Wednesday.
All six Thompson Speedway track championship divisions also return to showcase their abilities for the biggest crowd of the summer season this Wednesday at Thompson Speedway.
Thompson Speedway roars back to life with the help of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour for the Thompson 150 on Wednesday, August 6. The FloRacing Connecticut State Challenge resumes on the Thompson highbanks for the NASCAR stars alongside the New England Supermodified Series and the Thompson Speedway track championship divisions for another midweek special on the Thompson highbanks. Special Post Time is 5:00pm for heat race action with adult general admission available for $45, kids 12-6 are $10 and children 5 and under are free with the grandstands open at 2:00pm.
